Brief history: The Dino Fiat was born from an agreement between FIAT and Ferrari, signed for the need of the Maranello company to rapidly build a sufficient number of Dino engines (so called because they were derived from a 1956 project by the late son of Enzo Ferrari, Alfredo, known as Dino) to obtain homologation in Formula 2 for the Ferrari Dino 166 F2. Thus, alongside the more expensive Dino 206 GTs, the production of more affordable (albeit always expensive) versions of the FIAT brand was decided. In reality, the technical sharing between the Ferrari “Dino” and the FIAT ones was limited to the V6 engine. The Dino Coupé was presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1967, with bodywork designed by Bertone. Equipped with the same mechanics as the “Spider” (except for the wheelbase extended to 2550 mm), the Coupé was more elegant than sporty (the dimensions of the imposing fastback coupe, with room for 4 people, were important: 4514 mm in length and 1709 wide). Also in this case, as in that of the spider, the production was also entrusted to the designer himself who produced more than 6,000 copies in the five years of the model’s life  The road behavior was less reactive than that of the spider, especially due to the longer wheelbase, the lower compactness of the bodywork (the spider was 4107 mm long) and the greater mass (1280 kg against 1150).
